It was intense, thrilling, raw, and so compelling. I was not expecting to fall in love with this book as much as I did. It’s so easy to picture the forests that Cadie is battling for, or the small town she fell in love with. That is both good and bad, as both the delights and the horrors come to life through this writing style. The writing is lush and so wonderfully detailed. Through this method, much is obfuscated, keeping the readers on their toes right up until the end. The past – whatever Cadie is running from, and the present. The story alternates between two points in time. When she should be working on making the scientific community listen to her, instead she is heading back home to deal with what has been freshly unearthed. Unfortunately, a horror from her past crops up at just about the worst time ever. In fact, her research may just save both woods and people, if she can get anybody to listen to her. Now, as an adult, she’s made a career out of her love for the woods. All while discussing some very real world issues, such as climate change.Įver since she was a little girl, Cadie Kessler was obsessed with nature. It delightfully merges together thriller, contemporary fiction, and drama all in one. Julie Carrick Dalton’s debut novel, Waiting for the Night Song, is not a novel to miss out on.
